About The Position

Provides expert-level experience in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of medical equipment, instrumentation, and support systems used in healthcare delivery. Executes professional-level inventory assessments/audits and preventive maintenance of medical equipment. Recommends new equipment and testing procedures. Repairs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and inspects complex medical equipment and instrumentation and systems. Assigns routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observes their performance. Provides remedial corrective maintenance and maintains documentation of all service events, tests, and maintenance performed on clinical equipment. Diagnoses and corrects system and equipment malfunctions. Performs preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems and monitors completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors. Maintains documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures. Supervises and instructs biomedical equipment maintenance personnel in the safe use, application, testing, and preventive maintenance and repair of all types of clinical equipment technologies and systems. Reviews outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to department staff concerning improvements. Collaborates with Information Systems to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and connectivity of biomedical devices. Understands and complies with Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations. Responds to service requests and performs problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation. Consults with and educates operators and management on specialized biomedical equipment and systems.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience required
  • Associate's degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field as determined by the organization required upon hire.
  • CBET - Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician required upon hire
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Requires in-depth skills and knowledge of the specialized concepts, practices, and procedures in the area of specialization.
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of the specialization as well as business needs to recommend appropriate action.
