About The Position

ECTC is seeking a Staff Instructor III to coordinate the Biology and Medical Laboratory Technician (MIT) Lab for the Biological Science Division and ensure safety procedures are followed at the college.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Science with strong coursework in Biology and Chemistry and three years related work experience, or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in Biology and one year of related work experience)
• Ability to work effectively on a team
• Ability to take directives from biology faculty and supervisor
• Excellent oral communication and people skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Proficient computer skills

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty with student instruction and lab safety during scheduled and open lab sessions to help meet course competencies.
• Coordinates and maintains lab schedules for faculty and sets up lab activities on and possibly off campus.
• Oversees temporary workers/tutors.
• Grow microbial cultures, prepare microbiological media, and reagents.
• Maintains lab supplies and operates, cleans, and calibrates lab equipment as needed.
• Contacts maintenance contractor for equipment repairs.
• Responsible for the purchase of lab equipment and matching invoice and purchasing model reports for procurement.
• Stores, labels, and oversees the disposal of biology-generated hazardous materials.
• Maintains SDS sheets for all laboratory reagents according to state and federal guidelines and lab manuals.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor, including microbiological media preparation, maintaining microbial stock cultures, and autoclaving microbiological waste.
