About The Position

The biology department invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in cell biology and biochemistry to begin September 2027. We seek a colleague who encourages student learning through innovative pedagogy and who has expertise in contemporary methods in cell biology and biochemistry. The successful candidate will have primary teaching responsibility in Cell Biology (a foundational course for majors), upper-level Biological Chemistry with a laboratory, and the opportunity to teach introductory biology. The ideal candidate will have plans for engaging undergraduate students in course-based and/or mentored research opportunities. We seek a collaborative colleague who cares deeply about supporting students and preparing future scientists and STEM professionals. Biology faculty are actively involved in departmental initiatives related to curriculum and assessment, student career preparation and professional development, and campus-wide committees. Biology faculty advise students in general biology and in specialized options focused on Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, and Environmental Biology. In addition, the department teaches scientific reasoning courses for the General Education program and lab sciences support courses for allied health and sports and movement sciences departments. What makes Salem State University distinctive isn't just what happens in our classrooms. It's who's in them. Our students are ambitious, diverse and often the first in their families to pursue higher education. Our faculty rise to meet that with rigorous scholarship, thoughtful teaching and a genuine investment in student growth. We're the Commonwealth's Civic Engagement University and a proud Hispanic and Minority-Serving Institution, designations we've earned and take seriously.
