About The Position

State Fair Community College has an opening on the Sedalia campus for a full-time Biology Instructor. Responsibilities include teaching a range of Biology classes from introductory to higher level (including courses such as General Biology with Lab, Human Anatomy with Lab and Human Physiology with Lab), curriculum development, student advisement, institutional service and other tasks associated with full-time faculty. Evening classes are very likely and distance instruction (on-line and web-conferencing) may be required at later date. The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the discipline required or obtainable within one year of the start date.
  • A Master's degree in a closely related discipline will be considered, given that the degree includes at least 18 hours of Biology-specific coursework, covering a wide-range of life forms including plants, insects, etc.
  • Applicant should have at least 8 graduate hours of work in Human Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement necessary curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills necessary to utilize the computer and other technology to manage and improve instruction.
  • Ability to interact with a broad range of people both on and off campus in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrated sense of student centeredness.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • High proficiency in regard to technology including knowledge of Learning Management Systems (i.e., Canvas, Starfish).

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Biology is preferred.
  • Preferred applicants should have demonstrated record of teaching.
  • An understanding of the community college population and a commitment to the mission and vision of SFCC.
  • A concern for rigorous academic standards, retention, and outcomes assessment.
  • A mastery of active-learning techniques in the classroom.
  • Willingness to assume instructional-related responsibilities and leadership roles beyond the classroom such as mentoring adjuncts, and forming relationships with educators in the community.
