About The Position

Northern Essex Community College (NECC) serves approximately 5,000 credit students each semester across two campuses in the Merrimack Valley region of northeast Massachusetts. Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with college-level biology teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to teach within, and contribute positively to, a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and high expectations of academically disadvantaged students
  • Knowledge of pedagogy of biology learning
  • Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to demonstrate his/her ability and willingness to be involved in curriculum design and professional development in the area of biology instruction.
  • Experienced with the use of technology in the classroom and have experience with multiple forms of course deliveries through LMS.

Responsibilities

  • Teach biology courses at various levels and modalities, with an emphasis on Anatomy & Physiology and Physiological Chemistry.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings and collaborative activities.
  • Deliver assigned courses on NECC's Haverhill and Lawrence campuses.
  • Attend division meetings and other required gatherings.
  • Contribute to college service and curriculum enhancement, including the development of online and hybrid courses.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Provide student advising and maintain regular office hours.
  • Foster a collegial and professional team environment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
