Biology Adjunct Faculty
About The Position
Onondaga Community College (OCC), part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is seeking enthusiastic and engaging adjunct instructors for its Biology department. OCC offers two-year degree programs, certificate programs, and serves as a diverse educational learning community committed to fostering individuality. The Biology department needs instructors qualified to teach various courses, including Anatomy & Physiology, Introductory/non-majors biology, and General Biology. Occasionally, there may be a need for instructors in Microbiology or Ecology. Instructors are expected to teach both lecture and laboratory components, and develop course materials under the guidance of senior faculty, adhering to college-approved outlines.
Requirements
- Master's degree (or higher) in a relevant biological discipline from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency, or a professional degree in an appropriate medical profession (e.g. MD, DO, DVM).
- Relevant biological content-area expertise as evidenced by coursework at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or clinical professional school level, and/or by successful experience teaching similar college-level Biology classes at similar institutions.
- Ability to clearly and engagingly present information, lead class activities, and facilitate student learning.
- Commitment to student success and academic excellence.
Nice To Haves
- Teaching experience, particularly at the community college or introductory college level, especially as the sole or lead instructor.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Teach lecture and laboratory components of biology courses.
- Develop course materials such as lecture notes, assignments, quizzes, and exams.
- Adhere to college-approved course outlines for learning outcomes and grading scales.
- Engage students and facilitate student learning.
- Present information clearly and engagingly.
