About The Position

Daniel B. Stephens & Associates (DBS&A) is seeking a qualified and motivated staff person to join our diverse technical team. DBS&A is a water resources, engineering, and environmental consulting firm providing comprehensive services in groundwater and surface water hydrology, soil and environmental science, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and natural resource investigations. In this position, you will work hand-in-hand with a range of professionals with backgrounds in biology, hydrology, and geology, soil and environmental science, civil and environmental engineering, geographic information system (GIS) and computer aided design (CAD), and field and laboratory technology. As a subsidiary of Geo-Logic Associates (GLA), you will have access to 300 diverse professionals and 28 offices in the U.S. and Peru. Requirements

  • Master's degree in biology
  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting, biological surveys, and NEPA documentation.
  • Highly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of New Mexico.
  • Some experience with wetland delineations.
  • Experience working with state and federal environmental laws and regulations, and with state agencies such as the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the New Mexico Environment Department.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated aptitude for problem solving and analytical thinking, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with a team of biologists, field technicians, hydrologists, engineers, and GIS specialists working on natural resource issues in New Mexico and neighboring states.
  • Highly effective in written and verbal communication and comfortable addressing technical audiences.
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to our insurer
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Conducting field investigations to document the local flora and fauna and assess the potential for special-status species occurrence.
  • Conduct bird nest surveys for compliance with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA)
  • Delineating Ordinary High-Water Marks and participating in wetland delineations.
  • Analyzing data and preparing technical reports (Biological Evaluations and Assessments, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, monitoring reports, wetland delineation reports).
  • Working on project teams with professionals who are motivated to provide high quality services to our clients.
