About The Position

TRC, a Member of WSP, is a global consulting environmental and engineering firm seeking a Biologist/Wetland Scientist to support renewable energy, transportation, transmission line, pipeline, and public utility projects. The role focuses on projects in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, with occasional work in other states. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, committed to client service and technical excellence, and enjoys solving complex project challenges in a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time position requiring frequent travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a similar field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing wetland delineations and other types of biological surveys.
  • A firm understanding and ability to apply the guidance in the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Midwest and Northcentral and Northeast Supplements.
  • Experience preparing Section 401/404 and state wetland/waterway permit applications.
  • Familiarity with digital field technology (GPS units, tablets, cameras).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to safety.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
  • The ability to work well on a team and individually.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
  • At least 5 or more years of experience performing wetland delineations and other types of biological surveys.
  • Certified by the Society of Wetland Scientists as a Professional Wetland Scientist.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all types of biological survey and reporting projects, ranging from small local surveys through large, multi-year and multi-state projects.
  • Handle planning, logistics, and supervision of fieldwork for projects as assigned and assist with report writing, under the direction of a Project Manager.
  • Promote TRC safety and quality standards, policies and procedures and ensure field employees comply.
  • Ensure that all work and data collected are accurate, organized, and of high quality.
