About The Position

An exciting opportunity is available to work with Ducks Unlimited (DU), the world leader in wetlands conservation. We are seeking a mid-level biologist to join our team, delivering DU’s growing wetland mitigation program in the Great Plains Region. The mitigation team is on the forefront of DU’s exciting new ecosystem services emphasis. The new biologist will have the ability to help develop and influence innovative projects and programs, including wetland mitigation and beyond (streams, species, water quality, etc.). DU has built successful wetland mitigation banking and In-Lieu Fee programs across many states. Although our mitigation team can deliver fee-for-service projects, we have a significantly different outlook and work environment than traditional consulting firms. We will give you the direction and guidance needed to succeed, but also the ability and independence for creativity in achieving results. You will have the ability to see projects through from beginning to end, taking great satisfaction in walking the quality habitat you developed through lengthy planning and implementation efforts. The current need is based out DU’s Great Plains Regional Office (GPRO) in Bismarck, ND with work focused in ND, SD, and MT. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental discipline
• 2-10 years of relevant work experience
• Valid driver's license and must meet requirements to maintain company vehicle driving privileges
• Understanding and experience with prairie/wetland ecosystems, plant identification, soil characterization, and wildlife habitat conservation.
• Excellent communication skills, ability and willingness to communicate with private landowners, government employees, and other natural resource professionals
• Experience driving/navigating independently in remote locations and experience with off-road vehicle/ATV operation
• Experience with GPS and mobile technologies
• Highly proficient in the use of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel)
• Professional experience working with GIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS

Nice To Haves

• Experienced in field work to delineate wetlands according to the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and Regional Supplement(s)
• Understanding of the applicable wetland related regulations and delineation protocols and/or associated permitting experience (Scope and Effect, MWAM, HGM)
• Experience developing Mitigation Plans (Prospectus, Banking Instrument, etc.) and interaction with USACE/IRT reviews
• Stream restoration, and Threatened or Endangered species regulations
• Experience in drone operation and information processing
• Strong technical skills, aptitude to analyze and interpret information, and attention to detail
• Ability to use creativity and analytical skills to develop solutions for project challenges
