About The Position

As a community, the University of Rochester is defined by a deep commitment to Meliora - Ever Better. Embedded in that ideal are the values we share: equity, leadership, integrity, openness, respect, and accountability. Together, we will set the highest standards for how we treat each other to ensure our community is welcoming to all and is a place where all can thrive. This role contributes to the computational analysis of data generated across multiple research projects in the Sun lab, with a focus on cancer evolution, tumor immunology, transposable element biology, and multi-omics data integration. The Bioinformatics Analyst will develop, maintain, and apply bioinformatic pipelines for bulk and single cells RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, epigenomic profiling, proteomics, and genomic analysis. Responsibilities include performing data processing, quality control, statistical modeling, machine learning, and integrative analysis to identify biologically meaningful patterns and generate testable hypotheses. The role involves close collaboration with experimental researchers to design studies, interpret results, and support manuscript and grant preparation. Additionally, the position contributes to the development of reproducible computational workflows, data visualization tools, and laboratory data-management infrastructure while helping establish and expand the laboratory’s computational research capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1 year of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Experience with genomics and bioinformatics in a clinical laboratory including setting up, testing and maintaining bioinformatics workflows required
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a deadline driven environment with multiple priorities and multiple stakeholders required
  • Ability to learn and deliver work to audience with varied backgrounds required
  • Experience/proficiency with python/java/C++/R, bash scripting, statistical programming using R or related tools, web-development, pipeline development, and database query SRA downloading and ability to prototype software solutions for data analysis and use of next generation sequencing tools such as STAR(solo), TopHat, DeSeq, BWA, GATK, minimap2 and others required.
