About The Position

The Bioinformatics Support II role provides advanced scientific and analytical support to CDC genomic surveillance programs. This position serves as a bridge between laboratory science and computational analysis, supporting the execution of genomic surveillance pipelines and analysis of sequencing data to inform public health operations.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, or related field
  • Experience with tools: Nextclade, Freyja, Minimap2
  • Python/R/Bash proficiency
  • Linux/Unix experience
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and resolve problems without constant supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must pass the pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
  • An active NACI clearance or the ability to obtain a NACI clearance is required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and monitor amplicon and metagenomic sequencing pipelines
  • Perform QC checks on sequencing data
  • Analyze variant trends and lineage assignments
  • Generate reports and visualizations
  • Maintain reproducible workflows
  • Perform QC on sequencing outputs (coverage, lineage, variants)
  • Analyze genomic data using tools such as: Nextclade, Freyja, Minimap2
  • Work in Linux/Unix environments
  • Develop scripts in Python, R, or Bash
  • Maintain reproducible workflows using Nextflow or Snakemake
  • Collaborate with lab and epidemiology teams
