About The Position

The Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital is looking for an exceptional Bioinformatician to join the Systems Genetics and Genomics group to advance research in respiratory disease, with a focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This group has led significant genetic and multi-omic studies in this disease, identifying novel genetic associations and performing functional studies to uncover new disease pathways. The Bioinformatician will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of geneticists, genetic epidemiologists, biostatisticians, computational biologists, and translational scientists.

Requirements

  • BS degree and 1-3 years programming experience developing software solutions or MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or biological engineering.
  • Understanding of programming with agile development methods.
  • Experience in Programing with MATLAB, R, Python and/or Java that focus on computational biological applications.
  • Experience with common bioinformatics and genomic browsers [NCBI, Genbank, UCSC].
  • Understanding the use of bioinformatics tools including common NGS tools [BWA, samtools, GATK].
  • Knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu).
  • Must work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve 'big data' problems.
