Bio Process Application Scientist

About The Position

Yokogawa is seeking a Bio Process Application Scientist to provide technical product training, application expertise, and customer support. The role supports sales opportunities through product presentations, demonstrations, consultation, and application studies, and helps customers optimize experiments and identify promising applications. The scientist will create application notes and technical documentation, monitor trends in biologics and bioprocessing, and serve as a technical authority for customers, partners, and internal teams. The position also contributes to product strategy and roadmap development and provides product-improvement suggestions based on customer experience and feedback. The role involves work in an office, home office, customer sites, and analytical laboratories, with travel expected up to 30%. It requires substantial communication with employees, partners, customers, distributors, visitors, vendors, contractors, and others. Work outside regular business hours may occasionally be required. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Requirements

Master’s or PhD degree in Material Science, Life Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering; alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience.
Hands-on expertise with mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, or cell therapy manufacturing, and with upstream process development and bioreactor operations.
Extensive experience in laboratories, process development, and cGMP environments.
Customer-oriented mindset with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivation and desire to work with customers.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in diverse teams and cross-functionally, prioritize, and multitask.
Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work with customers.
Proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work in an analytical laboratory, work in bioprocessing facilities, travel to customer sites, work in an office environment, and use telecommunication tools.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Experience with process automation and control systems, including DCS and PLC platforms.
Work experience in a biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or bioprocessing environment.
Experience with applied data analytics methods such as Multivariate Data Analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), or PAT.

Responsibilities

Provide technical product training and support to customers and business partners.
Deliver application expertise and knowledge to customers and business partners.
Proactively support sales opportunities, visit customers, and provide product demonstrations and consultation in sales meetings.
Train and support customers onsite, via email, phone, and interactive web sessions.
Advise customers on optimizing experiments for their applications and identifying new and promising applications.
Create application notes and other technical documentation.
Monitor trends in biologics, cell and gene therapy, fermentation, vaccine manufacturing, and continuous bioprocessing.
Serve as the bioprocessing technical authority for customers, partners, and internal teams.
Support product strategy and roadmap development.
Represent Yokogawa at industry conferences, workshops, and scientific forums.
Suggest product improvements based on customer experience and feedback.
Support the sales organization on existing products through presentations, demonstrations, and application studies.
