About The Position

RRD is a leading global provider of marketing, packaging, print, and supply chain solutions. This role involves setting up, adjusting, and operating various auxiliary binding machines, including cutters, folders, and stitchers, to produce finished products like books, catalogs, and magazines. The position requires monitoring equipment, quality, output, and productivity, as well as training and mentoring new employees.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret written work orders or job specifications.
  • Ability to independently make decisions on equipment usage.
  • Ability to calculate distances, clearances, and fits in combining machines.
  • Skill in using standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
  • General knowledge of complex bindery machines (e.g., fully automatic binding machines, multiple station collators, multiple folding units).
  • Thorough knowledge of the setup, operating requirements, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of one or more bindery machines.
  • Knowledge of the quality and machining requirements of various coated and uncoated paper stocks.
  • Skill in setting up and adjusting machines for finishing operations and refining adjustments for paper stock characteristics.
  • Ability to prevent machining impressions on printed materials.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines (e.g., inkjet and mailing devices, case making & decorating equipment, folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines).
  • Set up automatic bindery machines with multiple functions and station capabilities.
  • Inspect equipment for safety issues.
  • Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders).
  • Make adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
  • Direct crew through all aspects of production.
  • Monitor quality, output, and productivity.
  • Train and mentor new and existing employees.
