About The Position

Lakeside Book Company is the largest book manufacturer in North America. This role is for a Bindery Operator 2 (BMO) on the 1st Shift, working from 7 am to 3 pm. The starting rate is $24.00 - $30.25 per hour, with a 7% shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts. Additional incentives include reimbursement for safety shoes and glasses. The company provides all necessary tools and offers two weeks of vacation and training.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of the setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of equipment to perform standard and specialized binding, folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials.
Comprehensive knowledge of the machinability of different paper weights, sizes, and kinds, and the ability to identify paper conditions that require machine adjustment.
Thorough knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of all machines used to accomplish unusual set-ups or machine combinations for unique printed materials.
Ability to use standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of bindery machines.
Skill in making difficult adjustments to powered machines using hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, knives) and specialized hand tools.
Skill in operating complicated bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing machines.
Ability to read and interpret written work instructions indicating the number and sequence of machine operations required and maintain dimensional accuracy.

Willingness to participate in cross-training, including achieving qualified status within the position and assuming responsibility as a backup for lateral and progressive roles.

Responsibilities

Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines, including inkjet and mailing devices, case making & decorating equipment, folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing machines.
Set up automatic bindery machines with multiple functions and station capabilities (power paper cutters, power collators and gatherers, power folders, power speed binder) that can be electromechanically combined with other equipment to produce finished books, catalogs, manuals, directories, magazines, or other completed products.
Inspect equipment for safety issues.
Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) that perform functions such as vibrating, milling, roughening, gluing, covering, and delivering or stacking completed books, magazines, or catalogs.
Make adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
Direct crew through all aspects of production.
Monitor quality, output, and productivity.
