About The Position
RRD is seeking a Bindery Operator for its Aurora, Colorado location. This first-shift role operates and adjusts auxiliary and automatic bindery machines used to turn printed sheets into finished books, catalogs, manuals, directories, magazines, and other products. Equipment may include folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding and gluing machines, perfect binders, and mailing or decorating devices. The operator inspects equipment for safety, coordinates machine stations, directs the production crew, and monitors quality, output, and productivity.
Requirements
- Familiarity with paper weights, sizes, types, and colors, including identifying conditions such as excessive moisture or curling that may require machine adjustments.
- Basic mathematics skills, including decimals and metric units, to understand job-order dimensions and make adjustments.
- Ability to use standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
- Skill adjusting powered machines using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, and knives, as well as specialized manufacturer-supplied tools.
- Ability to read and interpret written work instructions describing machine-operation sequences and dimensional accuracy requirements.
- Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding or gluing machines.
- Working knowledge of equipment setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations for folding, collating, and cutting printed materials.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and operate auxiliary and automatic bindery machines and related equipment.
- Inspect equipment for safety issues.
- Make adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a machine.
- Direct the crew through all aspects of production.
- Monitor quality, output, and productivity.
- Process printed sheets into finished books, catalogs, manuals, directories, magazines, or other completed products.
