About The Position

The main function of this position is to finish and package printed products. This requires the set-up and assembly of single and/or multiple components into a final product, either manually or by operating basic and technically advanced bindery/finishing equipment. Responsibilities include accurate reading and comprehension of written job specifications, set-up and manual assembly of components, safe and efficient operation of all listed equipment, correct packaging, labeling, and palletizing of final products, basic operator maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and work areas, and timely and accurate accounting and reporting of production time and materials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Basic math and measurement skills
• Knowledge of basic volume and weight
• Mechanical skills and abilities
• Physical abilities, including: continuous lifting of up to 70 pounds, continuous walking/standing (up to 14 hours/day), bending and squatting
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Problem solving skills
• Adaptability and versatility (change) skills
• Willing and able to work variable work schedules (sometimes with short notice) when and as required by the work load, which may include weekend and/or holiday hours.

Nice To Haves

• High School diploma plus trade school training/diploma
• Three years of trade bindery work experience
• Bindery trade certification(s)
• Knowledge of Shop Floor Data Collection, via Monarch Data Collection (thin net) Terminals
• General printing knowledge, particularly with regard to the principles of binding and finishing and the ability to recognize problems that could adversely affect the quality of the finished product
• Knowledge of set-up and operational knowledge of all equipment
• Knowledge of basic mailing regulations
• Knowledge of shipping and distribution
• Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
• Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO)
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Knowledge of general Publix and Printing/Mailing Services’ policies and procedures (attendance/punctuality, plant security, safety, etc.)
• Knowledge of chain-of-custody (CoC) processes and procedures, specific to the correct procedures for segregation and identification of both raw materials and finished product, and Publix and Printing Services job and code numbering systems.
