The VDC Technician performs a support role to the design and construction project teams with the development of BIM models as well as foresee possible conflicts before, during, and after the construction. This collaborative process with varying tasks and responsibilities will contribute to the overall successful development of the assigned projects. Some of these tasks will include the execution of design and construction modeling, presentations and 3D renderings, searching and analyzing materials, construction and installation methodologies to comply with project’s requirements. This person assists in obtaining, evaluating and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents through BIM models. The VDC Technician is involved in the strategy, process, modeling and coordination of projects. This person has a thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) computer applications, 3D designs and construction documents. The VDC Technician maintains professional relationships with designers and subcontractors. The VDC Technician is responsible for the coordination between the construction documents through the BIM modeling and the improvement of the construction process. As VDC Technician, this person will implement VDC strategies throughout the project’s life cycle from predesign to construction to facilities management. As VDC Technician, he or she will work with various departments to understand, advise and assist in implementing VDC processes.
