About The Position

Gibson Electric Co., Inc. is seeking a BIM/VDC Coordinator to support commercial electrical construction projects in the Chicago metropolitan area. The role reviews and produces 2D and 3D electrical drawings for field installation and coordination with other subcontractor trades. It creates accurate 3D representations of electrical components and produces shop drawings and cross-sections for underground work, conduits, cables, and other electrical systems used by fabrication and installation crews. The coordinator reads architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans; participates in coordination meetings to resolve clashes while considering budget, constructability, and NEC requirements; and works with the engineer of record and project management staff to resolve problems, explain drawings, and make adjustments for production and construction teams. The position may require travel to project sites and involves compliance with company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience in a BIM-related role.
Proficiency using Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks.
Understanding of construction, including the ability to understand drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of 3D coordination.
Basic computer skills, including folder structures, email and attachments, and keyboard shortcuts.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to communicate effectively in English and cooperate and collaborate with customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, suppliers, and other contractor organizations.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, or other model viewing or collaboration software.

Responsibilities

Review and produce 2D and 3D electrical drawings for field installations and coordination with other subcontractor trades.
Read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical floor plans, sections, and elevations.
Create accurate 3D representations of electrical components for coordination.
Participate in coordination meetings to resolve clashes while maintaining budget, constructability, and NEC code requirements.
Confer with the engineer of record and project management staff to resolve problems, explain drawings to production or construction teams, and provide adjustments as necessary.
Produce shop drawings and cross-sections of underground work, conduits, cables, and other electrical systems for fabrication and installation crews.
Travel to project sites as required.
Comply with company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.
Partner with others in the department or on the job site to ensure accurate drawings are created.
Perform other duties as required.
