About The Position

The Billing Specialist is responsible for compiling and filing claims with, and processing payments from, government and commercial health insurance plans and individual patients. The Billing Specialist is a direct link between the Billing Coordinator and QA Director and DHHS. While generating claims and receiving payments, the Billing Specialist interacts directly with the billing Coordinator, providers, and clients. The claims generated represent significant revenue and impact the ability to meet budget goals, deliver essential healthcare services, and achieve the DDCN mission. Accuracy and productivity in this position are mandatory.

  • Minimum of Associate Degree diploma or equivalent required.
  • Touch typing/keyboarding and touch10-key, both with speed and accuracy, are required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows personal computer, Microsoft Word, and Excel, required.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, reviews, corrects, and enters claim information into billing system.
  • Follows-up on pending claims to help ensure timely payments.
  • Promptly resolves issues related to claim denials.
  • Receives payments, reconciles with Explanation of Benefits, and then posts as appropriate.
  • Performs all responsibilities to meet timely filing and other time sensitive requirements.
  • Maintains required files of all appropriate documents and information.
  • Complies with HIPAA and other regulations and requirements.
  • Communicate and help individuals apply for Social Security Benefits and other benefits with DHHS.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
