Billing Specialist- Claims Processing
About The Position
Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. (UVES), the 9-1-1 EMS provider to the Town of Union, is seeking individuals committed to the overall success and continued growth of emergency medical services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism and a desire for personal growth in the healthcare industry. UVES generates revenues for services provided by billing patients and third-party providers. The Billing Specialist is an integral component of our organization, supporting the care provided to the Town of Union community through high-quality customer service during Emergency Medical Services. The Billing Specialist in charge of Claims Processing is primarily responsible for all activity during the initial claims generation phase of the processing cycle.
Requirements
- Two years' experience working in a medical office environment with an emphasis on accounting, billing, administrative/medical assistance, data entry
- Basic understanding of third-party insurances with the ability to discuss pertinent billing information with insurance companies and patients in a professional manner.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current NYS Operator's License or ability to obtain in 30 days.
Nice To Haves
- Experience as an EMT desired
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, desired (Preferred areas of study: EMS Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Management, Accounting, or Finance).
- Current NYS Certification at or above EMT-Basic desired
- Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
- Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) or ability to obtain within one year
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) desired
