Responsibilities

  • Periodically communicates and coordinates with long-term care and third party providers to obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information to facilitate the accuracy of patient accounts and the processing of claims in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Enters and/or updates patient information utilizing an automated computer billing system; maintains records of work activities.
  • Responds to inquiries from long-term care centers, patients, family members, and other customers regarding accounts and statements; investigates patient account issues; documents and re-files and/or adjusts claims when necessary.
  • Documents non-covered charges and reasons for denial; forwards denied charges to supervisor for review and ensures that secondary claim has been billed if appropriate.
  • Checks the status of claims with third party providers and works with processors on retroactive billing when needed.
  • Monitors the daily census of long-term care centers and reports changes in accordance with established protocol.
  • Complies with all HIPAA policies specifically relating to patient confidentiality and release of information; maintains strict confidentiality on all client information; attends staff in-services and training.
  • Promotes the image and reputation of the System by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication.
  • Contributes to the work of committees, workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts of the System.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the System.
