About The Position

The Bilingual Spanish-Speaking Resident Advocate is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality, security, safety, and general upkeep of the DOVE House. This role involves attending to the overall needs of in-shelter clients, answering helpline and dispatch phone calls, and assisting with client intake and exit processes. The advocate must maintain a professional and considerate manner at all times. Full-time advocates are also assigned training responsibilities and are expected to stay current with best practices in victim advocacy, including completing a 40-hour victim advocacy training. Bilingual advocates specifically work with the Spanish Advocacy Team to develop and implement protocols for timely responses to Spanish-speaking survivors and to support outreach efforts within the Spanish-speaking community.

Requirements

  • Proficient Spanish language skills required
  • High school diploma
  • Two years’ experience working with the public
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Strong communication skills; including phone skills
  • CPR/first aid required within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security, safety, and upkeep of shelter
  • Follow policy and procedures
  • Attend to the overall needs of the in-shelter clients
  • Provide victim advocacy as needed
  • Operate the 24hr hotline and provide crisis advocacy
  • Support client action plan goals
  • Document activities and notes in database and advocate logs
  • Provide training for volunteers and new staff advocates, as assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality, security, safety, and general upkeep of the DOVE House
  • Attend to the overall needs of the in-shelter clients
  • Answer all helpline and dispatch phone calls
  • Assist in intake and exit of clients
  • Maintain a professional and considerate manner
  • Complete a 40-hour victim advocacy training
  • Work closely with the Spanish Advocacy Team to create/adapt/activate protocols for timely response to calls, walk-ins, and intakes for all Spanish-speaking survivors
  • Support outreach awareness extended to the Spanish-speaking community
