About The Position

Washington County Community Corrections is seeking a highly collaborative and supportive individual to join their team as a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO). A key function of this role involves supporting a caseload of individuals from diverse backgrounds. This department plays a crucial role in community safety by working to prevent crime recurrence among adult Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs). They achieve this by ensuring accountability to supervision conditions while supporting JIIs' successful reintegration into the community. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.
  • Associate’s degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Possession of an Associate's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Must be certified as a Probation and Parole Officer by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) upon hire.
  • Must be a US citizen, or become a US citizen within 18 months of hire.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment, psychological assessment, and the DPSST pre-employment medical exam prior to appointment.
  • Must be able pass bilingual English-Spanish testing for written and oral proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting a caseload of people from various backgrounds.
  • Holding Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs) accountable to the conditions of their supervision.
  • Supporting JIIs' efforts to live successfully in the community.
  • Investigating cases and objectively evaluating information.
  • Assessing personal needs of adult JIIs and determining treatment plans.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete casework records.
  • Learning and using self-defense tactics, including the use of protective devices.
  • Actively participating in annual training and demonstrations on proper field security, physical defense, and arrest tactics and practices.
  • Learning to handle, disarm, and control weapons in a safe and proper manner.
  • Meeting a variety of physical exertion requirements in the use of equipment and in the control and manipulation of resisting JIIs.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with individuals of varying backgrounds, including JIIs, court and law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals, including co-workers and supervisors.

Benefits

  • Bilingual pay in the amount of five percent (5%) of their base pay rate, exclusive of any other incentive pay, or a flat rate of seventy-five dollars ($75) per pay period, whichever is greater.
