About The Position

Community Health Service, Inc (CHSI) is seeking a Bilingual On-Call Advocate to provide crisis intervention during after office hours. This role involves advocacy through medical, legal, and social services systems, as well as CHSI's Battered Women/Children's & Sexual Assault Programs and other supportive agencies. CHSI is a private, non-profit organization established in 1973 to serve the health needs of migrant & seasonal farm workers and their family members. Today, CHSI has expanded its services and provides mental & physical healthcare to all individuals in our communities. Our services are provided on a more affordable sliding fee scale to those who are underinsured or uninsured. We also accept ND and MN Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance plans. We currently operate four nurse-managed clinics, two mobile medical units, and two victim advocacy program centers in Minnesota & North Dakota.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate and write legibly in Spanish and English.
  • Willingness to travel and access to transportation required.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent preferred/some college or technical training.
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues facing victims of sexual and domestic violence and wide range of ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community and area resources.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying crisis cell and/or tablet 7 days a week as follows: Monday thru Friday 5:00pm to 8:00 am and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 8:00 am Monday morning when assigned.
  • Participate in 30-hours of training sessions on domestic violence and sexual assault forms and protocols on how to respond to crisis calls coming into the on-call cellular phone.
  • Provide supportive counseling to victims/ survivors.
  • Interpret for the victim/survivor when communicating for emergency services staff.
  • Provide victim advocacy with law enforcement and/or attend DV court hearings (weekly/monthly).
  • Provide emergency advocacy at hospitals and/or emergency care units.
  • Arrange for safe housing/relocation for victim/survivor.
