About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a fully bilingual Spanish tutor to provide small-group Math and ELA instruction to middle school students at a school in Brooklyn, New York. Groups include 1–4 students in grades 6–8 who have been identified as needing support with foundational Math and ELA skills. The tutor works with each group several times during the week and must be comfortable providing both push-in services in the classroom and pull-out services outside the classroom.

The tutor is responsible for taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal mobile phone. The position runs from November 17, 2026, through March 5, 2027, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 8:22 a.m. to 2:31 p.m.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field; anticipated graduation dates are not accepted.
• Fully bilingual in Spanish.
• At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a school or another educational setting.
• Mastery of middle school Math and ELA concepts and skills.
• Understanding of challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, including racial, socioeconomic, and cultural disparities.
• Genuine passion and commitment to fostering student success.
• Punctuality and adherence to established schedules.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to commute to the designated location.
• Ability to navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

• Tutor small groups of 1–4 middle school students in Math and ELA.
• Work with students in grades 6–8 who need support with fundamental Math and ELA skills.
• Provide push-in services in classrooms or pull-out services outside classrooms, as appropriate.
