About The Position

The Bilingual Mechanical Engineer – MEP role is an intermediate-level position based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, within a hybrid work environment (three days per week in the office). It is involved in building engineering projects, including the design and evaluation of mechanical systems in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The position covers several project phases, including design, detailed engineering, and asset evaluations, while adhering to Quebec and Canadian regulatory frameworks. Interventions concern HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems in commercial and institutional contexts. The ideal candidate possesses at least five years of experience in building mechanical systems engineering, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical deliverables, produce documentation, and collaborate effectively in a bilingual environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (OIQ) designation in good standing with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building mechanical systems engineering (MEP).
  • Proven experience in the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency in load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection (chillers, boilers, AHUs, pumps).
  • Knowledge of the Quebec Building Code, the National Fire Code of Canada, and the Quebec Electrical Code.
  • Strong skills in technical writing and engineering documentation.
  • Bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good organizational skills.
  • Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in building condition assessment and reserve fund studies.
  • Hands-on experience in testing, repair, and replacement of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience in renovation or rehabilitation (retrofit) projects.
  • Exposure to site supervision or construction administration.
  • Experience related to energy efficiency or sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects, including supervision of the approved scope of work, to ensure completion of all activities.
  • Ensure project management by overseeing the scope of work, timelines, and deliverables in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Perform mechanical design, including HVAC load calculations, sizing of ducts, piping, and equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret technical plans and specifications to support design review and technical coordination.
  • Conduct site inspections and condition assessments of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Produce technical reports, design sketches, plan annotations, and specification documents.
  • Develop cost estimates for repairs, replacements, and asset maintenance strategies.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in project follow-up meetings.
  • Maintain client relationships and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance according to applicable building, fire prevention, and electrical codes.
