About The Position

The Guest Service Security serves as the first point of contact for visitors, employees, and vendors while maintaining a secure and professional front-desk environment. This role blends customer service and administrative support with core security responsibilities, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere without compromising safety standards. The Guest Service Security is responsible for monitoring access, verifying credentials, managing visitor check-in procedures, and responding to security-related incidents in accordance with established protocols. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask are essential to support daily operations, protect personnel and property, and represent the organization with professionalism and discretion. The Bilingual Guest Services Security is responsible for creating an inclusive environment that demonstrates equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging to our clients, ChicagoCAC employees, and partners. Requirements

  • The ability to see details at close range and at a distance.
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period without being distracted.
  • Must also be vigilant and able to multitask.
  • The ability to sit stationary or stand at post for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of principles, policies and procedures for local and state security operations as well as policies and procedures set by ChicagoCAC.
  • The ability to communicate information both verbally and orally so others will understand.
  • Must be mentally alert, emotionally stable, and physically fit to cope with emergencies.
  • Must be prompt, reliable, and courteous.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • A strong understanding of basic computer skills such as using a web browser or opening documents and checking email.
  • Functionally, the Guest Service Security must be technically competent, computer literate, able to answer inbound/outbound calls, recognize signs of intrusion, have strong observation skills, and remain calm under pressure
  • Must be Bilingual.
  • Must have and utilize discretion as needed.
  • Must be able to triage clients and visitors in distress to provide support and de-escalate tension.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of security principles such as use of force, and rights of search.
  • Must understand crisis management and conflict resolution and call for assistance when appropriate.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid PERC Card within 90 days of employment.
  • Requires the ability to solve problems quickly and independently in times of low supervision.

Responsibilities

  • The ability to quickly respond to evolving situations and emergencies while adapting to changes and making informed decisions aimed at keeping staff and clients safe.
  • The ability to manage persons in crisis and determine the appropriate level of response and area of egress to ensure the highest level of customer service while deterring disruptions.
  • Open the building for the start of the workday by making rounds of the interior and exterior of the building to ensure necessary doors are opened and accessible.
  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain the security of premises by utilizing cameras and access control systems, while also being responsible for granting and removing access.
  • Maintain daily log of visitors: recording time of entry/time of departure, visitor’s name and intent for visit into visitor management system.
  • Guarding posts and making sure entrances are maintained and not abandoned before relief
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages or determine the appropriate staff member to forward calls to.
  • Security must also maintain discretion to not compromise protected information as well as be able to identify potential causes for concern or escalation.
  • Forwarding phone calls to the automated directory after hours.
  • View and record archived security camera footage while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
  • Create Staff and Partner Access ID Cards.
  • Maintain a current staff and partners directory listing of all staff including names, numbers, agency, cell phones, etc. Update as needed.
  • Receive mail and packages, and informing personnel of its arrival
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities and apprise supervisor of such (i.e., damage to vehicles, presence of unauthorized vehicles/persons, etc.)
  • Answer alarms and assist with the investigation of the source of the alarm. Call the police, fire department, ambulance, and/or security monitoring company in case of emergency or to report a false alarm.
  • Warn persons of inappropriate conduct and provide support by way of trespassing occupants if necessary.
  • Escort or direct individuals to specified locations and provide personal protection, when necessary, also determining whether law enforcement may be required to provide support or intervene.
  • Perform such duties to close the building for the end of the workday, such as making rounds of the building to ensure windows and doors are closed and locked, where necessary, outside perimeter lights are turned on, and the alarm is set
  • Participate in local networking and training opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned and as appropriate to the level of training and responsibility.
  • Assist with transportation using the Lyft and Uber programs.

  • Timing of vacations may be dependent on client needs, as that’s our first priority.
  • PTO goes up to 40 days after 5 years.
  • Additional PTO for FMLA-related reasons up to 20 days.
  • A remote work policy that provides flexibility in work hours so long as operational needs are met.
