About The Position

The Bilingual Field Trip Facilitator plays a crucial role in supporting school programs for Pre-K-12th grade students, with a primary focus on museum field trips. This position, within the Sue Ling Gin Center for Education and Public Programs, reports to the Manager of Field Trips and collaborates with various teams including School Programs, Public Programs, Education Program Assistants, and Visitor Services. The facilitator is responsible for ensuring a welcoming experience for all visiting student groups, facilitating engaging learning experiences at the museum, supporting school partnership programs, and assisting with off-site events. A key aspect of this role is providing support in both English and Spanish, including translating program materials to better serve Spanish-speaking audiences. Fluency in Spanish is a requirement, and a fluency test will be administered upon hire.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fields of education, science, social science, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in formal or informal education settings.
  • Experience with developing and teaching lessons using the Next Generation Science Standards, C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards, and Common Core required.
  • Experience with 2-5 years of informal or formal education required.
  • Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards, C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards, and Common Core required.
  • Expert level ability to welcome, engage, and interact with both individuals and groups of all ages in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read an audience through formal teaching, stage performance, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to have a flexible mindset in response to the unique circumstances of each field trip school and classroom.
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team to collaboratively develop program ideas.
  • Ability to independently host and proactively engage with museum visitors of all ages in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) facilitating programs and field trip operations.
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, and climb (ladders and step stools) as needed to set up and manage program materials.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and equipment, typically up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with developing and implementing in-person and remote field trip programs that are relevant and responsive to learners’ needs, including inquiry-based experiences for Pre-K-12th grade students and for school communities preferred.
  • Experience with Pre-K-12th grade education preferred.
  • Spanish proficiency highly preferred (other languages a plus).
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan field trips and/or events.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome school groups in English and Spanish.
  • Provide operational support for coat check and lunch collection in English and Spanish.
  • Monitor the cafeteria during lunch and coat check at the end of field trips.
  • Facilitate gallery experiences, student classes, and other programmatic activities in English and Spanish.
  • Maintain inventory of program supplies and prepare field trip materials such as signage, bins, maps, or worksheets.
  • Translate field trip materials into Spanish.
  • Assist with setting up and resetting rooms for field trips and general program uses.
  • Ensure the safety of all guests and follow museum safety and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain clear communication with field trip stakeholders.
  • Support school partnerships by facilitating classroom workshop visits in English and Spanish.
  • Prepare and translate materials for school partnership programs.
  • Support field trips and science nights for partnership schools.
  • Support other School Programs experiences, including materials prep and facilitation for off-site programs and promotional events, teacher professional development, on- and off-site classes, and cleaning/resetting the PlayLab space.
  • Facilitate or support facilitation of camp curriculum and learning programs for Pre-K-8th grade audiences.
  • Prepare materials and learning spaces before and after camp events.
  • Support the process of children and their families dropping off and picking up during camp seasons.
  • Support campers moving through the building during camp activities or when they arrive late.
  • Support setting up, tearing down, and moving activities and materials for camp programming.
  • Lead small groups of campers through museum spaces.
  • Facilitate or support facilitation of early childhood learning programs in English and Spanish.
  • Support other Education programming as assigned, including The Grainger Science Hub, Volunteer programming, the PlayLab, School Partnerships, Summer Camps, and Educator Open House.
