After School Program: Bilingual Family Liaison

About The Position

Under the direction of the Student, Family and Community Support Department, the Family Liaison supports and advocates for families by enlisting family engagement in student academic success; by working with families in identifying and achieving academic goals; by accessing support services; by developing training opportunities and facilitating positive family, school and SFUSD relationships and communication. The Family Liaison creates authentic and diverse involvement opportunities for all families to contribute to their school community.

Requirements

Bilingual (verbal and written) English-Spanish
Associate degree or higher, or 48 college units, or passage of the Instructional Aide Exam.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB clearance.
Ability to work during after-school hours and commit through the academic school year (hire date through mid-June).
Minimum of one year of experience working with K–12 youth in educational, enrichment, recreational, or community-based settings.
Demonstrated ability to independently supervise and engage groups of up to 22 students.
Experience planning and facilitating academic, enrichment, recreation, or youth development activities.
Ability to build positive relationships with youth from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to complete Mandated Reporter certification and other required trainings.
Basic proficiency with email, Google Drive, and other program management platforms.
Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting staff in youth-serving environments.
Experience leading groups, projects, events, or program initiatives.
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and move throughout the program space for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Ability to actively supervise and accompany students during indoor and outdoor activities.
Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

Help the school community develop a family-friendly school climate amongst staff, students, and families.
Develop programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement.
Support staff and families to develop strong academic partnerships.
Enhance communication between families, school and the district.
Develop and implement effective family involvement strategies to empower families as key decision makers in school governance committees such as: School Site Council & English Learner Advisory Council.
Coordinate and support school wide governance councils and committees.
Promote and participate in school/district activities and programs for families.
Recruit partners to become part of the school’s family involvement program.
Organize, implement, coordinate and present family education workshops and training sessions.
Prepare and disseminate newsletters and other school communication materials for school communities.
Develop volunteer activities at the school site, including coordinating family leaders, room parents, volunteers, etc.
Collect and evaluate the data of family involvement activities.
Provide support resources and referrals to families as needed.
Prepare monthly family engagement plans and maintain records on program activities.
Maintain monthly Data Director log with focal families at school site.
Attend monthly professional development sessions which are organized and led by the central office.
Report monthly activities and goals to school staff and community partners.
Cultivate a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where all youth feel a sense of belonging and receive support.
Build strong relationships with students and provide proactive support for youth experiencing challenges.
Model and support restorative, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
Address behavioral concerns, conflicts, and safety incidents with students.
Build positive partnerships with families, school staff, and community partners.
Support the planning and implementation of high-quality academic, enrichment, and youth development programming.
Use program quality, attendance, and engagement data to improve student outcomes.
Support Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes and site-level quality goals.
Help to support Program Instructors in instructional practices, youth engagement, and classroom management.
Participate in staff training, meetings, and professional development.
Foster an equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment for all participants.
Collaborate effectively with staff, school personnel, families, and community partners.
Promote student voice, leadership, and meaningful participation.
Support team problem-solving and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
Demonstrate self-awareness, professionalism, and openness to feedback.
Ensure program operations align with BACR policies, grant requirements, and safety expectations.
Maintain accurate attendance, documentation, and program records.
Support daily site operations and communicate concerns proactively.

Create engaging learning experiences that support academic, social-emotional, and leadership development.
