About The Position

Lockton has an opening for a Bilingual (English/Spanish) Injury Counselor who will use early intervention strategies and proactive communication to help facilitate the oversight of Workers’ Compensation claims. Specific emphasis will be on guiding and reassuring injured workers, ensuring prompt medical treatment and facilitating timely return to work. Position involves extensive phone contact with injured workers, adjusters, and medical providers.

Requirements

  • Able to speak Spanish and English fluently.
  • Motivated self-starter with willingness to learn and ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in accordance with department standards.
  • Must be trustworthy and can handle highly confidential information with the utmost care and discretion
  • Ability to multi-task and track the status of assigned claims to a successful and timely completion.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a heavy workload to meet deadlines.
  • Computer and Internet proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s in psychology preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience with Workers’ Compensation a plus but not required. Will train.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and build relationships with injured employees by explaining the Workers’ Compensation process, their responsibilities and the roles of the Injury Counselor, insurance claims adjuster and treating physician.
  • Use claim tracking software to document conversations and maintain a comprehensive electronic file of communications and activities related to each claim.
  • Set reminders for follow up claim activities and ensure these are completed timely.
  • Report information accurately and promptly to the appropriate insurance carrier.
  • Communicate with the claim adjuster, sharing information to ensure appropriate handling of each claim.
  • Contact the treating physician following the injured employee’s appointment to obtain diagnosis, work restrictions and treatment plan when needed.
  • Maintain contact with the injured employee and respond to any questions or concerns regarding their recovery.
  • Act as liaison between all parties to ensure timely return to work.
  • Provide program updates to leadership.
  • Participate in periodic claim reviews with claim adjusters.
  • Participate in training opportunities.
