About The Position

The Dental Assistant I will provide quality care and services to patients by assisting dentists and other staff in a variety of patient care, radiology, and laboratory duties. This role involves clerical and chart management, including follow-up with patients regarding dental treatment plans. Additionally, it requires excellent customer service skills, including assessing customer needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Dental Assistant with the WA State Department of Health.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Ability to handle delicate equipment.
  • Knowledge of dental instruments, equipment, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and equipment related to work.
  • Effectively work in a multi-task environment, prioritizing tasks properly, and completing tasks/projects in a timely manner.
  • Basic computer experience.
  • Adequate typing skills.
  • Ability to communicate with fluency in English/Spanish.

  • Experience with Neonatal, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist chairside independently and provide dental care to patients, performing all dental assistant procedures allowable under Washington State Law.
  • Educate patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Participate in school, Headstart, EPIC, and Migrant Camp offsite outreach programs.
  • Maintain the uniformity of operatory equipment, checking for outdated inventory and tagging out unsafe equipment.
  • Maintain the standard use of materials and ensure headpieces and dental equipment are repaired as needed.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competency with digital and panoramic radiology.
  • Keep operatories and laboratory stocked, organized, and safe, including opening/closing procedures and assisting with inventory and supply ordering.
  • Follow all procedures outlined in the Clinic Safety Manual and Dental Clinic Blood Borne Pathogen Compliance Manual, explaining infection control and occupational safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate Universal Precautions techniques.
  • Open and maintain the central sterile room when needed, performing duties of the central sterile technician.
  • Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competency with patient chart entries.
  • Affect favorable billing and collection outcomes by ensuring all patient services and billing information is collected and submitted timely and accurately.
  • Schedule appointments, prepare cost estimates, and maintain records manually or enter data into the computer system.
  • Document Recall tickler (both exam and Hygiene) following each visit.
  • Prepare dental referrals and lab slips as requested by the Dental Provider.
  • Document No Shows in the chart with a follow-up phone call.
  • Greet patients and visitors with a warm and friendly manner.
  • Provide information for all inquiries both in person and over the phone.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with patients, dentists, and co-workers.
  • Provide accurate verbal translation when required.
  • Perform AIDET 100% of the time, maintaining a 90% proficiency score.
  • Use the dental department phone system.
  • Assist patients with information and educational materials as approved by the supervisor and other CVCH programs.
  • Ensure completion of paperwork by patients while reviewing and updating dental records.
  • Assist as a backup for front desk functions as needed.
  • Monitor and report non-compliance or risk to the Dental Director and Dental Operations Manager.
  • Notify Dental Director and Dental Operations Manager if unsafe conditions develop.
  • Report safety and feedback incidents following Quality and Accreditation (Q&A) protocols.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Be prepared to start shift at scheduled time, meet attendance standards, and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
