About The Position

Norwescap is seeking a dedicated Bilingual Community Development Program Assistant who will support a resident-driven neighborhood planning and community improvement initiative in Dover, NJ. The Bilingual Community Development Program Assistant will engage residents through outreach, relationship building, and community organizing activities to encourage participation in neighborhood planning efforts. They will serve as a liaison between residents, community leaders, and project partners to ensure meaningful community engagement and representation throughout the planning process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Fluency in Spanish.(required)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (required)
  • Driver's license (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in community development, social work, communications, public administration, human services or a related field (preferred)
  • Previous experience in community outreach, organizing, public engagement, nonprofit services (prefered)
  • 2 or more years in human services or nonprofit organizations (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct bilingual outreach with residents regarding neighborhood needs, priorities, and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform community outreach activities including door-to-door canvassing, distributing flyers, tabling at events, and making phone calls to invite participation in meetings and activities.
  • Answer resident questions regarding neighborhood planning initiatives and community improvement projects.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of community meetings, workshops, and public engagement activities.
  • Assist with presentations, discussions, and facilitation during community meetings and events.
  • Provide logistical support for community events and meetings, including setup, registration, and participant engagement.
  • Document and maintain records of resident feedback, comments, and recommendations collected through outreach and meetings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with residents, community leaders, stakeholders, and partner organizations.
  • Develop and maintain contact lists and databases of current and prospective community participants.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of outreach materials including flyers, notices, social media content, and other communication tools.
  • Collaborate with project staff, consultants, and community partners to maximize meaningful resident participation.
  • Attend community meetings, special events, and outreach activities, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Participate in Housing and Community Development Department meetings, committees, and special projects.
  • Assist with additional community development and outreach initiatives as assigned.
