About The Position

The Make-A-Wish Canada Internship Program is a paid summer internship designed to provide students from all backgrounds with an impactful non-profit work experience, fostering a deep understanding of the sector. The program aims to equip students with hands-on experience and sector knowledge needed for their future careers, while making meaningful contributions to the organization. Interns have the opportunity to work in their preferred areas of interest, on significant projects alongside industry leaders. This specific role is for a Bilingual Communications Intern to join the Make-A-Wish Canada team. In this position, the intern will support the Communications Team in delivering strategic initiatives that strengthen brand awareness and deepen engagement with the Foundation’s mission. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the intern will contribute to wish story writing, corporate communications, media relations, and content capture. This internship offers the opportunity to collaborate with a team of nonprofit communications professionals and gain hands-on experience in storytelling, public relations, and marketing. This is a full-time summer internship at 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and is on a hybrid model (2 days in office/3 days work from home office), based out of the Montreal office.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Recent graduate (or soon to graduate) with a degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in nonprofit communications and brand management.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Positive attitude, proactive approach, and eagerness to learn.
  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age (Funding requirement).
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Funding requirement).
  • A clear Criminal Background Check will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools, social media platforms and content creation tools is an asset (e.g., Meltwater, Canva, social media scheduling tools).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching and developing wish stories for use across web, events, social media, email, and media relations.
  • Support the research and writing of web and blog content for makeawish.ca.
  • Assist in developing communication materials for regional fundraising events, including impact reports and social media content.
  • Help coordinate event assets and materials, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Help build and maintain media contact lists and assist in drafting press materials.
  • Monitor and tag media coverage using tools such as Cision; organize findings and assist in preparing reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Write and support the creation of engaging content for the Foundation’s website and social channels.
  • Assist in organizing multimedia content (written, photo, and video) from events and wish stories.
  • Provide administrative support for internal activations, including merchandise sourcing, ordering, mailings to provincial offices, and gathering quantities from key stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings, offering ideas and input to support upcoming projects.
  • Other duties as required.
