About The Position

CEP Forensic Inc. is seeking a Bilingual Civil Engineer for its Ottawa office. The role involves acting as a forensic expert to investigate and identify the causal factors of damage in civil engineering cases, including residential, commercial, and light industrial claims. This includes documenting scenes, conducting structural analysis, performing code compliance reviews, managing permit applications, assessing building conditions, preparing repair drawings and specifications, and testifying as an expert witness. The successful candidate will also be responsible for promoting the company and building customer relationships.

Requirements

  • University degree in Structural, Civil, or Building Engineering or a recognized equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario.
  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in consulting, construction quality control, or construction site supervision/project management.
  • Strong command of both oral and written communication including report writing in French and English.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Codes and Standards.
  • Design experience in a variety of structures including wood, steel and concrete.
  • Field experience in structural & civil works, infrastructure, construction methods and materials, geotechnical, and building science engineering.
  • Excellent ability to synthesize information, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Efficient, attentive to details, good hands-on skills, setting priorities and organizational skills.
  • Curiosity, good judgment and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed as an Engineer in Québec is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Document the scene, assess, analyze and state your opinion as to the probable cause of the damage.
  • Investigate damage related to structural collapses of all kinds, along with damages related to flooding, wind, soil movement, blasting & vibrations, water infiltrations, condensation, as well as slip, trip, and falls accidents, etc.
  • Conduct structural analysis to determine the cause of failure or adequacy of structural components following an incident.
  • Perform Codes (Ontario Building Code) and Standards compliance analysis and reviews.
  • Manage the building permit application process related to building damage.
  • Perform condition assessments of buildings and properties.
  • Prepare repair drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare reports and testify as an expert witness in Court.
  • Promote the company through your friendly and professional attitude during your interactions with customers and strengthen your relationships with them.
