About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking a Bilingual Program Educator to join their OCBE team. This on-call, part-time position focuses on educating families about child passenger safety and car seat installation in both English and Spanish. The role is mobile, requiring work in various locations, including outdoors in different weather conditions, and involves hands-on car seat installations, presentations, and tracking of learning sessions and inventory. The educator will collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including Denver's Vision Zero program, to deliver education and contribute to program improvements. This grant-funded position emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion, aiming to make Denver's streets safe for everyone.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching, community engagement, or working with underrepresented communities
  • Fluency in Spanish (required)
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for working collaboratively in diverse communities
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, as defined by the Denver Mayor’s Office of Social Equity & Innovation
  • Skilled oral and written communicator who enjoys working with diverse people in ways that are respectful, empathetic, productive, collaborative, and consensus-building
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (one year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of post-high school education)
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

  • Potentially other common local languages such as Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Amharic, French, Nepali, or Dari
  • Knowledge of child passenger safety, car seat installation, and new/current updates in laws and practices (volunteer or paid experience), or a desire to attain this learning

Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting in-person Child Passenger Safety learning at various locations, both classroom-style and individualized learning
  • Becoming a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), with training costs covered by the program, maintaining knowledge base
  • Helping families install and remove car seats during scheduled appointments
  • Reinforcing overall safe driving behaviors and seatbelt use
  • Collaborating with local groups and agencies to deliver learning and gather feedback on the program's effectiveness, contribute to program improvements
  • Reviewing and providing constructive feedback toward program processes and materials, including Spanish language materials and diligence toward ensuring cultural relevance
  • Lifting, unboxing/assembling, and installing/removing car seats
