About The Position
Provide instructional and language support to bilingual and English Learner (EL) students under the direction of certified teachers. Assist with classroom activities, translation, interpretation, and student supervision to help students achieve academic success while developing English language proficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Meet state and district requirements for paraprofessional positions
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish
- Knowledge of bilingual education and English Learner instructional strategies
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer and technology skills
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree or college hours preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing instructional activities for bilingual and English Learner students.
- Provide individual and small-group support to reinforce lessons and concepts.
- Help students understand classroom assignments and directions.
- Support language development in both English and Spanish as directed by the teacher.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Translate written communications, forms, notices, and other materials as needed.
- Serve as an interpreter during parent conferences, meetings, and school events.
- Facilitate communication between school personnel and Spanish-speaking families.
- Monitor student progress and report concerns to teachers.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior support.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, field trips, and other assigned duties.
- Encourage positive student behavior and engagement.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
- Assist with state and district documentation requirements related to bilingual and ESL programs.
- Support campus activities and programs involving bilingual students and families.
- Participate in training and professional development as assigned.
