About The Position

Killington/Pico Resort Bike Patrol staff monitor the Bike Park and other assigned summer mountain areas for injured, reckless, and lost guests, as well as trail hazards. Responsible for providing first aid and other necessary assistance to guests while promoting safe riding practices and performing various trail inspection and maintenance tasks. The focus of the job is on routine patrol, rescue, guest service, and first aid assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Outdoor Emergency Care certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Strong downhill mountain biking ability with the ability to safely ride intermediate and advanced terrain.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License meeting company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to lift at least 75 pounds.
  • Good technical first aid skills.
  • Good reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with guests in a courteous, professional, confident, and calm manner.
  • Ability to operate ATVs/UTVs/Trucks safely or willingness to obtain training.
  • Ability to use radios and communicate effectively during emergency incidents.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to perform rescue operations and all other essential job duties.
  • Ability to hike for equipment for sustained periods or on steep terrain.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous emergency medical experience preferred.
  • Experience using hand and power tools commonly utilized for trail maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies throughout the Bike Park and assigned summer mountain areas.
  • Assess injured guests, provide emergency medical care within certification level, and safely transport patients using approved rescue equipment.
  • Support mountain rescue operations in remote or technical terrain.
  • Assist lost, stranded, or inexperienced riders in returning safely to appropriate trails or lift facilities.
  • Stand by for emergency response assignments and maintain operational readiness throughout the workday.
  • Complete patient care reports, incident reports, photographs, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with lift evacuations and other emergency response operations as needed.
  • Participate in department training sessions, clinics, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Patrol assigned Bike Park trails and summer mountain areas to ensure trails are properly signed, marked, and safe for public use.
  • Identify existing or potential trail hazards and communicate concerns to Patrol leadership and the Terrain Parks & Trails department.
  • Monitor and report trail conditions, weather impacts, rider traffic, and operational concerns.
  • Perform trail maintenance tasks including installing and removing signage, marking hazards, installing ropes or fencing, clearing debris, assisting with minor trail repairs, and closing trails when necessary.
  • Assist with daily trail opening and closing procedures to ensure assigned terrain is inspected and operationally ready for guests.
  • Provide outstanding guest service while maintaining a professional and approachable presence throughout the Bike Park.
  • Promote safe riding practices by educating guests on Bike Park rules, trail etiquette, and mountain safety.
  • Assist with enforcing company safety policies and Bike Park operating rules in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Identify injured, reckless, or out-of-control riders and respond appropriately.
  • Perform routine patrol assignments while learning more advanced responsibilities under the direction of senior Bike Patrol staff.
  • Assist in maintaining patrol bikes, rescue equipment, medical supplies, radios, ATVs/UTVs, trailers, and patrol facilities.
  • Patrol races, festivals, competitions, camps, and other special events.
  • Assist with preseason setup, postseason shutdown, and preparation for winter operations.
  • Perform additional operational duties as assigned.
