About The Position

JSM Airport Services, LLC is seeking a highly motivated BHS Jr. Technician at George Bush International Airport (IAH). This is a career-track opportunity, and we are looking for an individual ready to commit to a long-term professional future with our company, with an expected commitment of at least 1 year. The primary function of this position is to provide electro-mechanical operational, preventative, and emergency maintenance support.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Must possess at least 1(+) year of mechanical work experience
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must be able to read and interpret repair manuals and basic mechanical schematics
  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day
  • Frequently lifting/moving items that may range in weight up-to 50 pounds, occasionally up-to 100 pounds
  • Work safely in a variety of locations that may include moving equipment and electricity, as well as small spaces, high spaces, dirty spaces, and hot spaces
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Be aware of moving equipment, as well as areas where electricity is present
  • The applicant must be able to successfully pass a drug screen (we promote/maintain a Drug Free Workplace), a driver's license check, a background check, and required federal fingerprinting, security threat assessment, as well as airport security badging, for continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a variety of tools/hand tools safely and properly, as well as utilize any/all appropriate safety and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules and maintenance procedures
  • Inspect all baggage handling system components including but not limited to curbside and ticket counter hardware, cladding, and belts (all three levels)
  • Check all BHS belts, motors, power turns, carousels, ATR’s and PODs
  • Be able to analyze a situation in order to provide the best possible solution
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities, including cleaning conveyors and surrounding work areas, removing debris from conveyor systems, removing and reinstalling conveyor covers for inspection and cleaning purposes, and identifying potential equipment issues through visual observation and auditory inspection.
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on baggage handling systems (BHS), including conveyors, motors, sensors, scanners, and related equipment.
  • Assist senior technicians in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and operational issues affecting baggage handling equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures under the guidance of BHS Technicians, Lead Technicians, or Senior Staff
  • Make minor adjustments to ensure system functionality and reliability pertaining to both electrical and mechanical items
  • Replace worn or defective components and ensure equipment is restored to safe operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and work order documentation.
  • Clear and reset baggage handling system jams and fail-safes in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor baggage handling system performance and respond promptly to equipment malfunctions to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Report recurring equipment problems, safety concerns, and maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Attend requested/required training, while demonstrating a willingness to learn
  • Ensure possession of proper tools (including lockout/tag out) and keys when responding to E-Calls for maximum efficiency and response time
  • Assist in the replacement and/or adjustments of components, including, but not limited to, bearings, motors reducers, and belts
  • Effectively communicate with Senior Technicians and/or Supervisory team when necessary
  • Support emergency response efforts for baggage system breakdowns and operational incidents.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
  • Safety and compliance training as required
  • Follow all airport, company, and regulatory safety policies and procedures while performing maintenance activities.
  • Comply with security regulations, access control requirements, and airport badge policies.
  • Perform other reasonable ancillary duties to support the operation and our customer
