About The Position

The Bereavement Manager oversees Big Bend Hospice ((BB) grief, loss, and bereavement services designed to educate and support members of hospice families, hospice staff, and the community. Responsibilities include staff supervision and training, individual and group bereavement counseling with youth and/or adults, grief education for staff/community, program development, and administrative oversight for the bereavement program.

MSW in Social Work (LCSW preferred), Mental Health, Counseling, or related field.
A minimum of three years’ experience in hospice care or bereavement counseling.
A minimum of two years’ experience in group facilitation.

Responsibilities

Provides supervision and support to bereavement team members. This includes monthly one-to-one supervision with individual team members and bereavement team meetings.
Provides supervision and support to bereavement volunteers in coordination with the BBH Volunteer Department.
Provides bereavement assessment screenings and bereavement interventions per Plan of Care on patients’ families not followed by other team members.
Assists Interdisciplinary teams with the identification of medium/high-risk situations and provides assessment and intervention(s) as needed.
Participates in Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings as needed in the absence of other bereavement team members.
Assists in identifying anticipatory bereavement risk factors.
Helps develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate bereavement support groups, events, and services for youth and adults.
Helps develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate bereavement camps.
Develops/Orders/Organizes materials and resources related to grief, loss, bereavement, and related issues.
Maintains availability for consultation with staff regarding issues of grief, loss, and bereavement.
Coordinates bereavement mailings to identified caregivers.
Promotes the continued development and utilization of bereavement literature, including an updated list of community bereavement resources and updated adult and children’s packets.
Provides crisis support as needed and as resources allow.
Develops, oversees, evaluates, and refines bereavement services, policies procedures and documentation in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and BBH Leadership.
Assists in researching funding opportunities and grant writing in collaboration with Big Bend Hospice Foundation and Big Bend Hospice leadership.
Responds to bereavement needs and speaking requests that require evenings and weekends.
Coordinates with the Volunteer Manager and other Team Managers regarding the assignment and supervision of Bereavement Volunteers and Interns.
Provides supportive counseling to the community as resources allow and make appropriate referrals for ongoing counseling and support.
Provides consultation and education on grief, bereavement, and related topics.
Maintains and completes all required records, documentation, and reports in accordance with BBH and other regulating bodies.
Attends BBH QAPI meetings and other administrative or clinical meetings as requested.
Maintains professional licenses as applicable and participates in ongoing professional development.
Assists with various Bereavement or BBH services as needed or assigned. Designates Essential Function of the position.
