About The Position

The Bereavement Counselor (10-12 hrs/wk) plays an important role in supporting individuals and families as they navigate grief and loss. Through counseling, education, and bereavement programming, this position helps extend Hospice of the Piedmont's mission of providing compassionate care and support to our community during life's most difficult transitions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field
  • A minimum of one year’s experience, preferably in working with grief and loss
  • Clinical experience with individuals, groups, and families
  • Is available evening hours to meet client needs.
  • Driver’s license, personal automobile and current automobile liability insurance
  • Strong assessment abilities in counseling, interviewing, and communication
  • Deep understanding of counseling approaches
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and the grief process
  • Intermediate proficiency in word processing software

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical assessment, counseling and support desired by bereaved family members.
  • Facilitates bereavement groups/workshops.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of emotional, social, and spiritual needs and responses to death and grief.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of factors that indicate complicated grief and high survivor risk.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge of community resources.
  • Prepares documentation for the clinical records per HOP standards.
  • Participates in agency and community programs to enhance education on issues of death, loss, and grief.
  • Maintains quality and productivity standards and participates in the measurement of these standards.
  • Adheres to practice of confidentiality regarding patient, families, staff, and the organization.
