About The Position

The Benefits Specialist, reporting to the Superintendent, Compensation & Benefits, will be based in Edmonton, AB. This role is responsible for administering employee benefit, insurance, and savings programs, processing transactions, supporting workers' compensation claims, reconciling invoices, maintaining records, and providing employee support.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in employee benefits administration, preferably in a multi-site, industrial, mining, or remote operations environment, with demonstrated knowledge of insured benefits, disability benefits, workers’ compensation-related coordination, pension administration, RRSP matching, health spending accounts, and employee savings programs.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP), or related designation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, reconciliation, and customer service skills, with proficiency in HRIS, payroll, and benefit administration systems; demonstrated ability to manage confidential information, resolve benefit discrepancies, communicate clearly with employees, and maintain accurate records in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer employee benefit, insurance, and savings programs, including extended health and dental, life insurance, AD&D, critical illness, disability benefits, health spending and wellness accounts, direct contribution pension plans, RRSP matching, TFSA, FHSA, and related benefit offerings.
  • Process benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, beneficiary updates, leave-related benefit changes, disability updates, and savings program transactions in accordance with plan rules, company policies, provider requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Support workers’ compensation-related benefit administration by coordinating required information with Human Resources, Payroll, external providers, and applicable WCB/WSCC processes.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices, employee deductions, employer contributions, pension and savings remittances, health spending and wellness account activity, and provider records, resolving discrepancies as required.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready benefit records across Human Resources, payroll, and benefit administration systems, ensuring data integrity and appropriate documentation.
  • Provide employee support and coordinate with benefit carriers, pension and savings providers, Payroll, Finance, and Human Resources to resolve inquiries, support reporting, improve processes, and maintain a positive employee experience.
