About The Position

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing health insurance enrollment and SNAP benefits enrollment and navigation to uninsured and low-income Staten Island residents. The Benefits Navigator will work from various sites on Staten Island as scheduled and will be based out of our Community Food Pantry at 2134 Richmond Terrace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related experience, associate’s degree and 2 years of related experience, or High School diploma/equivalent with significant and relevant health care and/or case management experience, and strong socio-cultural identification with the target population.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Proficiency with computers and web-based applications, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to manage communications tactfully and professionally with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and activities while meeting established timelines.
  • A team player with an ability to work on diverse teams with shared responsibility and accountability; ability to contribute to a positive, productive, open, and supportive environment
  • Must live in location that allows for the ability to respond to an on-site crisis in person within 2 hours, as needed

Responsibilities

  • As a certified health insurance enroller, provide health insurance enrollment education and assist client with enrollment.
  • Complete SNAP screening as part of the intake process and assist as needed to obtain SNAP benefits.
  • Complete mandatory and elective trainings required for the position, as determined by the funder and management.
  • Conduct community outreach to apprise community leaders and residents of health insurance and benefits options.
  • Conduct regular, comprehensive client documentation reviews for quality and completeness.
  • Manage all data entry and corresponding reconciliation work on a timely basis.
  • Prepare internal and external reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Perform all functions in alignment with CHASI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Other duties as assigned
