About The Position

MDU Resources Group, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented, self-directed Finance professional to work with the HR Team to assist with the benefit billing process. This role involves basic Trust accounting, ensuring timely and accurate payments, and performing regular account reconciliations to maintain financial integrity. The position handles premium billing, employee and retiree contributions/payments, and prepares billings for approval and payment. It also involves coordinating, researching, reporting, and analyzing various benefit requests from senior analysts and leadership, including assisting with benefit budget preparation. The role may also support internal and external audits related to benefit plans. A strong emphasis is placed on safety as the top priority in daily work.

Requirements

  • Must possess a working knowledge of business and human resources practices at a level normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, human resources management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years’ employee benefits experience (for Benefits Analyst II).
  • Four years’ in-depth experience with employee benefits program management and compliance (for Benefits Analyst III).
  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Benefits program certification or certification as a human resource professional.
  • Excel experience using formulas and descriptive statistic functions.
  • HRIS experience.

Responsibilities

  • Track and monitor claims, fees, premiums, reimbursements, and costs.
  • Reconcile discrepancies and variances (i.e., billing, RDS, enrollment, or plan details).
  • Interpret analysis and develop summary reports for management review and decision making.
  • Assist senior benefits personnel in comprehensive and in-depth analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in drafting, editing, and reviewing Summary Annual Reports, Summary Plan Descriptions, 5500s, Plan Documents, retiree communications, or other corporate communications.
  • Assist in the integration of companies acquired by MDU Resources’ business unit(s) through vendor interface, benefit plan consolidation and supporting legal and regulatory activities.
  • Assist in the development, distribution, maintenance and tracking of communications, including implementation of approved benefit changes, updates, notices, open enrollment communications and other educational or required pieces.
  • Respond to employee and retiree questions.
  • Gather and compile data used to respond to employee benefits surveys.
  • Assist in benchmarking benefit plans against survey data.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting benefit changes, updates, programs, and education/training to employees.
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.
