About The Position

The Benefits and Leave Specialist is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (groups health, dental, vision, short-term disability, FMLA, State and local leave laws, life insurance, and 401(k)) plans).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of benefits experience OR 7 years of benefits experience
  • 2 years of leave administration experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by FMLA. ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of common employee benefits practices and procedures.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS, payroll, and similar human resource management software and practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study.
  • CRE Industry a plus.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the leave administration process.
  • Serve as the primary contact for leave administration vendors.
  • Manage the leave administration process for the employee’s initial notice of the need for leave to return to work.
  • Main reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, worker’s compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Oversee the return-to-work process for employees returning to work process.
  • Draft and recommend revisions to the company leave policies ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of all leave accommodations laws including FMAL, ADA, and state and local laws.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims and processing.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing including new enrollments, life events, COBRA, and terminations.
  • Ensure all benefits are set up correctly in the HRIS system and transmitted appropriately to carriers.
  • Assist employees with benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Document and maintain benefit procedures.
  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollment, changes, and plan contributions.
  • Manage communications and act as the main point of contact for all benefits inquiries
  • Partner with onboarding to answer questions that occur in new hire orientation
  • Design and distribute materials for benefits orientation and open enrollment
  • Maintain the Benefits SharePoint site ensuring all information is up to date and accessible to employees.
  • Provide benefit plan interpretation, guidance and counsel to employees and HR Team members
  • Oversee all benefits billing
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and submit to accounting for payment
  • Provide necessary report for allocation/billing charges.
