About The Position

MOSERS is looking for a detail-oriented benefit specialist to join our Benefits Administration team located in Jefferson City, Missouri. This is primarily a phone-based, member-facing role: the majority of your day will be spent answering calls and emails from members and retirees. You will walk them through questions about their accounts, benefits, and the retirement process. Alongside that, you'll process the paperwork behind those conversations — retirement applications, benefit elections, and account changes — with accuracy and care. In addition, you will answer questions regarding the MOSERS website and provide assistance to members who need help logging into their myMOSERS site. You'll report to the assistant benefits officer, with additional direction from the chief benefits officer, and work closely with a team dedicated to helping Missouri's state employees navigate one of the most important transitions of their careers.

Requirements

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of technical-level experience, with strong communication skills.
  • Excellent phone presence — comfortable spending most of the workday on calls, staying patient and clear across a high volume of member questions.
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Accurate, proficient typing skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Reliability with a team mentality.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to questions from members and retirees via telephone and email regarding website assistance, completion of forms, years of service, retirement benefit amounts, COLAs, etc.
  • Verifying survivor eligibility, collecting acceptable proof documents, processing survivor applications and preparing them for verification.
  • Processing refund applications for eligible members.
  • Performing a high-volume of account updates and reviewing retirement, direct deposit, tax withholding, and beneficiary forms.
  • Requesting corrections for incomplete or inaccurate forms.
  • Drafting correspondence to members and beneficiaries specifically around survivor benefits.
  • Serving as backup for front desk staff as needed.
  • Performing other duties as needed or assigned.
