About The Position

The City of Fredericksburg Department of Social Services (FDSS) is recruiting for a Benefit Programs Specialist who performs eligibility and case management functions for a benefit program caseload. This position will primarily be managing an Ongoing caseload of SNAP and various medical assistance programs to include Families and Children (F&C), Aged Blind and Disabled (ABD), and Long Term Care (LTC). The Benefit Programs Specialist determines program eligibility for certain public assistance programs, performs technical, administrative, counseling and case management duties for an assigned caseload of clients served by the City Social Services Department. Duties include interviewing applicants and explaining benefit programs; assisting applicants in completing necessary forms; determining and advising applicants of eligibility for assistance; and monitoring client ongoing program eligibility. Telework options (up to three days a week) are an option for this position once the candidate is fully trained as determined by their supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience working with the general public in a local department of social services, or equivalent education, and/or experience.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check to include a clean search of the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry (no current findings or cases associated to you).
  • A valid state driver’s license that meets the standards for the City of Fredericksburg.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working for a Social Services department.
  • Prior experience determining Medicaid eligibility in F&C, ABD, and/or LTC.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software.
  • Knowledge of DSS case management systems.
  • Prior experience working as Benefits Intake worker.
