Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required.
  • Requires 3 months on the job training.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Auditory skills, effective verbal & communication skills, hand/finger dexterity, critical thinker, ability to type 30 WPM with high degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Advises patients and/or guarantors on benefits, financial responsibilities, and secures payment of patient liability.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information obtained on the job.
  • Greets patients promptly upon arrival using appropriate scripting and a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is accurately obtained and entered into the registration system in a timely manner.
  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational materials to patients and/or family members.
  • Meets with patients or their caregivers before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation, explain processes, and address questions or concerns.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as needed; determines and collects required payments (including copays and deductibles) or refers patients to financial counselors for follow-up.
  • Secures payment of estimated patient liability.
  • Follows internal cash control procedures when collecting payments of estimated patient liability.
  • Visits all in-house self-pay patients to evaluate eligibility for Medicaid or other indigent programs.
  • Meets with in-house patients who have an estimated liability to explain insurance benefits and financial responsibility.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and/or vendors to assist patients in applying for Medicaid and/or state aid.
  • Assists patients and consumers in applying for Health Insurance Marketplace coverage.
  • Provides coverage in other registration areas as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
