About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Bench Mechanic for the Weekend shift. This role involves performing pre-coating operations such as surface preparation and masking, as well as post-coating tasks like removing parts from fixtures, removing masking, troubleshooting, and diagnosing malfunctioning equipment. Minor repairs on coating equipment may also be required. The position involves deburring, blending, polishing, countersinking, grinding, drilling, or grit blast operations on aerospace engine components using various hand and power tools. Additionally, the role includes performing Total Preventive Maintenance on applicable machines/equipment, checking parts to meet visual and dimensional requirements using measuring equipment, and ensuring completed parts meet quality standards. The Bench Mechanic will also work from oral and written instructions to remove burrs, nicks, and scratches on parts, assist engineers in developing new operations, and make recommendations for improving operating parameters and processes. Flexibility around shifts, including overtime for training and workflow maintenance, is required, along with the ability to handle multiple significant priorities.

Requirements

  • 0-1 years of related experience, or a completed degree/certificate from a post-secondary or vocational school in a related field with 0-1+years related experience.
  • High School or GED
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions concerning work methods and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Basic computer skills
  • Flexibility around shifts, for training and to maintain workflow, to include overtime.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with metal finishing methods, spray coating/paint application, machining, grinding, and/or welding.
  • Experience with computerized machine operation.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments such as feeler gauges, verniers, calipers and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic involving decimals and fractions

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-coating operations including surface preparation and masking duties.
  • Perform post coating tasks such as removing parts from fixtures, removing masking, troubleshooting, and diagnosing malfunctioning equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs on coating equipment.
  • Perform deburring, blending, polishing, countersinking, grinding, drilling or grit blast operations using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment on surfaces and details of aerospace engine components.
  • Perform Total Preventive Maintenance on applicable machines/equipment as required.
  • Check parts to meet visual and dimensional requirements using various measuring equipment/tools including micrometers, verniers, height gages and other fixed gages.
  • Assure completed parts meet quality requirements.
  • Work from oral and written instructions to remove burrs, nicks, and scratches on parts.
  • Assist engineers and others in developing new or changed operations.
  • Make recommendations for changing and improving operating parameters and processes.
  • Refer any difficulties to leader or supervisor.
  • Be flexible around shifts, including overtime, for training and to maintain workflow.
  • Handle multiple significant priorities at a time.
  • Carry out tasks not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description, in support of department objectives and to develop individuals’ skills.
