About The Position

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman, UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. Providence Hall is accepting applications for a part-time Behind-the-Wheel Driver's Education Instructor to join our team at our High School campus. This role provides one-on-one, in-vehicle driving instruction to students enrolled in the driver education program, helping them build the skills and judgment needed to become safe, confident drivers.

Requirements

  • Utah State Issued Driver's Education Certification
  • Valid Utah driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and attentive while supervising a student driver in real time
  • Sound judgment and quick decision-making in potentially high-stress driving situations
  • Positive interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to sit for extended periods in a vehicle and travel to various driving routes/locations
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history and driving record, and professional references as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction to students in a dual-control vehicle, in accordance with Utah driver education law and PHCS curriculum
  • Conduct a pre-drive safety check before each session (mirrors, seat and seatbelt adjustment, fuel level, general vehicle condition)
  • Select and sequence driving routes appropriate to each student's skill level, progressing from low-traffic areas to more complex driving environments (e.g., higher-speed roads, parking maneuvers)
  • Monitor student performance closely and provide real-time feedback and correction to build safe driving habits
  • Remain alert and prepared to use dual controls or verbal guidance to prevent unsafe situations
  • Evaluate and document each student's progress toward required behind-the-wheel instruction hours
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date driving logs and instructional records for each student in accordance with USBE and school reporting requirements
  • Communicate regularly with the driver education program coordinator/classroom instructor regarding student scheduling and progress
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding driving session scheduling as needed
  • Help ensure driver education vehicles are clean, fueled, and in good working condition; report maintenance concerns promptly
  • Assist with scheduling behind-the-wheel sessions around student and vehicle availability
  • Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and supervisory instructions
  • Follow all applicable Utah driver education law, State Board of Education rules, and PHCS driver education program requirements
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the driver education program and school in general
  • Maintain effective communication channels to ensure a collaborative school community
  • Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
